Metal Free Dentistry

Taking a conservative, forward thinking approach to creating a perfectly natural smile.
Progressive technology and clinical techniques allow Dr. Gorman to practice a very conservative approach to metal free dentistry. This approach provides the most conservation of natural tooth strength and esthetics.
Using the latest technology for metal-free restorations.
Generally one of three procedures will be used to guarantee long-term restoration of posterior (back) teeth. The approach will depend on the underlying strength of the tooth. Where tooth loss is minimal, a matching composite is bonded to fill small cavities and the tooth retains most of its strength. If the missing part is big enough to compromise the integrity of the tooth, a porcelain onlay is used. These tooth-colored porcelain restorations are like three-dimensional puzzle pieces designed to build back the original shape and size of the tooth. This approach is more conservative than a crown because preparation results in saving more of the tooth and the bonded onlay adds strength to the tooth. When more conservative mercury free dentist restorations do not meet the strength requirements of the situation, ceramic bonded crowns are used to cover the entire tooth.
Mercury Free Dentist
Amalgam (silver) fillings (100+ Year old technology)
- Contains mercury, which expands and contracts with hot and cold fluids (similar to how a thermometer works) causing leakage and decay over time.
- More tooth must be removed to hold the filling in place resulting in unnecessary loss of tooth structure and weakening of the remaining tooth.
- Chewing pressure can open a margin between tooth and restoration, over time a fracture may occur.
- Can discolor the tooth around the filling making it appear gray or black.
- Is an unsightly alternative to modern restorative dentistry.
Composites, porcelain onlays, full ceramic crowns & porcelain veneers
- Provides ability to save more natural tooth structure due to adhesive technology.
- Are permanently bonded to the underlying tooth providing strength and support.
- Are tooth-colored and therefore natural looking and mercury free.
- Reflect and refract light like real teeth for a natural looking luminosity.
- Look good, feel good and last a long time!
