Full Mouth Rehabilitation
A number of people in our society today are looking for or are good candidates for full mouth rehabilitation. Many of us, especially the “baby boomer” generation and older, did not grow up with the benefits of modern dentistry like fluorides, regular cleanings, sealants and aesthetic tooth colored restorative materials.
As a result we commonly see patients that have a hodge podge of dentistry in their mouths. There may be large metal fillings, metal crowns, bulky porcelain with metal substructure crowns, some tooth colored fillings and stained teeth and fillings. There may also be a lot of functional and dysfunctional wear on teeth giving a premature aged look to the teeth and smile.
In addition we see a number of patients that have occlusal and /or TMD problems. This translates to “bad bites” and /or jaw joint problems. These can cause a number of issues including severe wear on teeth, fractured teeth, loose teeth, gum recession, muscle soreness, muscle headaches and breakdown of the anatomy in the jaw joint itself.
The good news is with modern techniques, materials and aesthetic ceramists we can manage a full reconstruction in a coordinated way. Whether we are doing aesthetic crowns, veneers, onlays or implant restorations it can be done so that the bite is coordinated with the jaw joints and the proper tooth sizes, shapes and color shades can be restored to a beautiful, natural result.
